| San Juan is one of 172 islands in the San Juan
Islands. Of the four islands served by Washington State Ferries, three go by the
island's name, but, to avoid confusion, the ferries refer to San Juan island as Friday
Harbor, the town where the ferry terminal is located. Marketers refer to the typical
tourist as an eco-tourist. People who like to watch wildlife like whales, seals,
birds, etc. Hiking, picnics on the beach and kayaking are also popular here.
Each island is unique, but San Juan or Friday Harbor has the most diversity and is
noted for many fine restaurants. The biggest attraction besides simple relaxation is
how often and close Orca whales come to the west side of this island. This is also a
popular location for weddings, with its many romantic settings.
